MINI MAGPIE PROGRAM - COMPETITION RULES 2012

IWSNA Mini Magpie Program caters for 5, 6 and 7 years old who are new to Netball and perhaps new to sport in general.  The program was developed to meet the requirements of the Junior Sports Policy and the subsequent Fun Net program developed by All Australia Netball.

The program is tailored to skill development and game practice allowing them to master motor skills like throwing, catching and running whilst developing commensurate with their age group.  Essentially, the program is meant to be a fun environment of games and activities.

To ensure the success of the program, IWSNA requires all clubs participating to provide Mini helpers at a ratio of one (1) helper for every 10 players.  The helpers must have at least attended the Beginners Club Coaches Coaching Course through IWSNA or a NSW Coaching Course.  They are also reqired to attend an information night with the IWSNA Coaching Convenor to run through and become fully familiar with the program.  THIS IS COMPULSORY IF A CLUB ENTERS PLAYERS INTO THE MINI MAGPIE PROGRAM.

MODIFIED NETBALL PROGRAM

IWSNA Modified Netball program is made up of divisions for 8 and 9 years players.  The rules of the program are in ine with the Netta (Modified) Rules as determined by All Australia Netball.

8 years play on courts with 8 ft high goal rings and are umpired by one umpire, who may be the coach.  Each team provides the umpire for one half of the game.  The umpire is permitted onto the court to help direct play for both teams.  Each team is provided with a score sheet and the players' rotation must be recorded for each game.  No goals are recorded on the score sheet.

9 years play on courts with 10 ft high coal rings and are umpired by 2 umpires (umpire your own).  These umpires to be supplied by Clubs and cannot be the coach.  They do not have to sign on but must be at the court in time to check nails etc before start of play.  This is an ideal training ground for young umpires.

We encourage full rotation of players for the 8 years but for 9 years you may concentrate on rotating attack; centre court and defence players only in their respective playing areas.  Each game will be provided with one score sheet and goals should be recorded on the score sheet however, no competition points are allocated to the game.

Important Note:  Seven year olds may participate in an 8 year old Modified team if they have either had at least one year in the Mini Magpie Program or participated in a recognised junior sport and be able to rovide documentary evidence ito the Association that they have participated in and/or completed the program.  This may be in the form of a Certificate of Participation or similar (a letter from a parent will not be accepted).  This rule applies only to the 8 year teams, they will not be able to play any higher than 8 years.
